As the Academic Training Programme progresses in to its second week, students were invited to a private viewing of Dundee’s V&A museum.
Following a brief introduction from Julie Muir, V&A’s young people and families producer, students were given full access to the museum exhibitions and galleries, including the popular Ocean Liners exhibition.
Dundee is the UK’s second city to become home to a V&A museum and is a demonstration of contemporary architecture and design. Award winning Japanese architect, Kengo Kuma, designed the building and is well-known for his architectural achievements around the world.
A student from the British University in Dubai said: “I had heard about the museum before travelling to Scotland, but it truly is beautiful. It was a really fun and interesting experience, especially for photography opportunities. The building itself is a really fascinating piece of architecture.”
Philip Long in Al-Maktoum College
The visit follows on from a meeting with Philip Long, director of the V&A Dundee, who attended Al-Maktoum College last week to give a presentation to ATP students. He covered topics such as architectural design, planning and the history of Dundee, before inviting students to a question and answer session.
ATP students have one final week left of studies, before their graduation from Al-Maktoum College. The ceremony will take place next week in Dundee’s Marryat Hall and is set to receive a number of honorary guests and diplomats, travelling from the Middle East and surrounding countries especially for the occasion.
