Dundee’s Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education welcomed students participating in the 29th season of the ‘Academic Training Programme in multiculturalism and leadership skills’, which began yesterday with the participation of 58 students from the UAE, Cairo and Malaysia.
Lord Provost Ian Borthwich, Dundee, was at the reception of the students during his visit to the College.
The Lord Provost welcomed the students, saying : “We enjoy international connections and your visit here as students continues our tradition of cultural exchanges.
I hope that you all enjoy your time in Dundee and that you are able to experience some of our fascinating attractions as well as focusing on your studies here at the Al-Maktoum College.
The Al-Maktoum College is a hugely important part of Dundee city community and it is an honour to welcome you to our city”.
It is noteworthy that the Academic Training Programme (ATP) dates back to 2003, and was designed with the aim of helping students to expand their academic horizons and prepare them for the professional field in administrative and leadership roles.
The programme lasts for a period of four weeks, during which students attend a set of lectures, seminars and workshops held in the College that deal with topics related to multiculturalism, leadership and international relations.
The students reside in the city of Dundee during the course of the programme and will benefit from excursions to many attractions around Scotland, in addition to their final visit to London in the fourth and final week of the programme.
Dr Abubaker, Secretary and Acting Head of College, expressed his ‘thanks to the Lord Provost for the warm reception, his visit to the College and his welcome to the students’.
Students participating in the programme arrived from multiple universities including Abu Dhabi Police College, Abu Dhabi University, Alwasl University, American University of Sharjah, British University in Dubai, Cairo University, ENOC (Emirates National Oil Company), Higher Colleges of Technology, Dubai, United Arab Emirates University, University of Fujairah, University of Malaya, University of Sharjah and Zayed University.
