Shaping the Future of Governance: Highlights from Al-Maktoum College’s “Future Government” Course

At Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education, we are proud to serve as a hub for global collaboration and innovation in leadership development. One of our recent initiatives, the “Future Government: Practical Approaches and Best Practices” course, brought together senior public sector officials from Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MPED) for a transformative three-day program in Dundee.

Driving Public Sector Innovation

This course was designed to empower leaders with practical tools and innovative strategies to enhance governance and service delivery. Through interactive sessions, participants explored critical topics, including public sector innovation, creating positive work cultures, and using design thinking approaches to improve people experiences within their organisations.

One of the course’s key sessions focused on Service Design for Public Services, emphasising how human-centered approaches can lead to better outcomes for both employees and citizens. Delegates engaged in thought-provoking discussions on promoting empathy, collaboration, and mutual understanding within their teams to drive meaningful workplace transformation.

Learning Beyond Borders

The course welcomed a delegation of senior officials from The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), the training arm of MPED in Egypt.

Through case studies, discussions, and practical exercises, participants gained insights into innovative governance models that could be adapted to their unique challenges. These sessions provided a platform to share experiences, bridge cultural perspectives, and inspire new approaches to leadership in the public sector.

Enriching Experiences in Dundee

In addition to the academic programme, the visiting delegation had the opportunity to explore Dundee, experiencing the city’s rich heritage and vibrant culture. The warm exchange of ideas extended beyond the classroom, creating lasting connections between participants and the Al-Maktoum College community.

Looking Ahead

By providing a space for dialogue and learning, we aim to empower public sector professionals with the skills and knowledge needed to address contemporary challenges.

We are grateful to all participants and collaborators for making this programme a success. Al-Maktoum College looks forward to continuing its work in promoting innovative solutions and creating meaningful learning opportunities for leaders worldwide.
