25 April 2018 is World Penguin Day – so it gives the College to chance to talk about our very own penguin.
Well, a giant penguin sculpture to be exact.
We are very pleased to announce that we are taking part in a special artistic project to help raise funds for Maggie’s Centre Dundee.
Our penguin sculpture – its design is a secret for the time being – will be in a parade of 80 individually decorated penguins that will feature on the streets of Dundee and surrounding area for three months this summer starting on the 29 June.
Our penguin is being designed by Kiwi Artist Mandii Pope. Mandii has held exhibitions in Europe and the UK, including significant solo exhibitions in Cork Street London and Dubai. Many works are in private and commercial collections internationally.
Public Art includes: 26 Public Art Sculptures to date for various charities around the globe raising over £100,000.
Maggie’s Centre Dundee, in partnership with Wild in Art, developed the penguin parade, which is being backed by local sponsors and 100 smaller penguins are going to all local schools and community groups
The aim is to raise significant funds to support Maggie’s vital work in caring for local people affected by cancer and to raise awareness. Dundee has long had an association with penguins and replicas of these cute creatures can be found in various spots throughout the city. All of us at the College are delighted to be involved in such a worthwhile campaign for Maggie’s Centre – and we can’t wait to see our penguin sculpture.
