Amina's story

I come from a rich and diverse multi-cultural background. I was born in Nairobi, my ancestral home is India and I have lived in the UK since the age of 9. I love learning new languages and speak more than a handful fluently. I’m qualified in Arabic, English and Swahili. I love to travel,  exploring cultures, meeting and networking with a wide range of individuals and organisations. I live in Dundee with my husband and two children and my current hobbies are running, Latin dancing and calligraphy.

There are no limits at the Al-Maktoum College. If you are looking for a bespoke and outstanding learning experience, and a College that values your time, your commitment and supports you to achieve the very best of yourself, then, think or look no further.

Tell us about your experience studying with Al-Maktoum College

I graduated in 2021 with the HND in Business. Some years ago, I also successfully achieved my Diploma in Arabic Language at Al-Maktoum.

The quality of learning and the exceptional standards of lectures were important to me and I knew that I would have that at the Al Maktoum. The College offers each student unique and outstanding opportunities to evolve and add to their portfolio.  As a student, you have an opportunity to get an extra edge and it is for that reason that it was top of the list for me.

What was your favourite part of the course?

My classmates and my lecturers made my experience at the College such a positive one. The pandemic has not been easy on any of us but every single one of us worked collectively, motivating one another and being innovative through the unprecedented times. I truly made friends for life and I will be eternally grateful to my lecturers for their efforts and commitment throughout.

Do you have any fond memories/experiences from your time at the College that you would like to share?

Our end of year celebration was outstanding. I will never forget the day out in Edinburgh. Our cohort went out on a nice lunch, then off to a silent disco and ended with a success at the escape rooms. Despite the weather being dull and rainy, we made the best of our time together and this memory will stay with me forever. It was also a lovely experience to attend the Graduation Ceremony held at the College, in which a number of students from across the different courses also attended.

What are your plans for the future?

I’m off to study in year 3 in Business and People Management, at Abertay University. This pathway was possible because of the articulation agreement between Al-Maktoum College and Abertay University. I’m also seeking voluntary opportunities within the HR world to get some practical experience to aid my theoretical knowledge from university.

Do you have any advice for prospective students?

My advice to future applicants is, there are no limits at the Al-Maktoum College. I arrived with the passion, ambition and drive to achieve my personal and academic growth and the College supported me to achieve the greatest of accolades. If you are looking for a bespoke and outstanding learning experience, and a College that values your time, your commitment and supports you to achieve the very best of yourself, then, think or look no further! Sign up at the Al-Maktoum for an incredible experience and decision you will not regret.
